Heya Legends and Rockstars, I’m Markus Hamence and I work as the ‘A Botanic Spirit’ (Previously known as The Botanic Designer).
A Botanic Spirit with Markus Hamence is a fresh, contemporary exploration delving deep into the powerful connection between plants, creativity and how we live. Blending biophilic design, mindful living and a love of embracing your life, this space you are visiting celebrates nature as much more than just background to our lives and a garden we visit occasionally – it’s a feeling, an energy and a way of shaping environments that support wellbeing BUT starting with the inner us FIRST. With a modern, on-trend edge, A Botanic Spirit invites you to slow down, reconnect with the natural world and create a life that feels alive, intentional and deeply personal and where nature become the storyteller and our sanctuary.
Surrounding my self in nature has always been ‘my thing’. Though unaware at the time, it was the catalyst for finding my true self…
Brining nature in my home was an important part of my growth as a human. My apartment now boasts over 400+ indoor plants (as seen on South Aussie with Cosi). While I do not encourage others to follow suit to this quantity unless you know what you’re in for and slightly obsessed like me, I certainly subscribe to a couple here and there bringing in that vibrational energy that only nature can do.
This website and all content is based solely on my experiences with plants and my life wanderings and the information I have garnered from these times during my successes, and, my disasters. It is not a intended to be an encyclopedia, just my factual personal collected ramblings and goings-on.
Enjoy the site, M 🙂
Workshops and Speaking Engagements are held and can be run all around Australia. From the city areas plus coastal, hills & suburbs right to the regional towns and remote areas (including cruise ships).
From the experienced gained in his plant world and Life Travels, Markus delivers knowledge and content in a variety of ways over an array of 13 seperate workshops. The sessions range from conversation based with slide presentations through to actual hands-on session.
The workshops (More performance like) are fun, entertaining, informative and most of all engaging. Enter the session with questions, leave with laughter, inspiration and a smile and hopefully answers to the knowledge you sought.

Corina Gul is a keen, talented and award winning photographer, she’s an amazing cook (trust me), a ‘lover of life’ and holds ‘being kind’ importantly high. BUT, her garden is we are chatting about today. If there’s a rose she doesn’t know of, it’s not worth knowing about.

My first indoor plant purchase was a Philodendron Florida, this plant is definitely what started my obsession with Philos and Aroids. I found I have a love for plants with unique shaped leaves, colours and different sizes.

I've interviewed many people on their gardens now BUT I've never interviewed the source of where my plant love originally came from. My dad. I would follow him around our large garden with my keen eye soaking in the actions of him in the garden, whether it would be mowing the lawn, pruning the trees OR mulching.
We had The Botanic Designer visit the Murray Bridge Library today to do a terrarium activity as part of our school holiday program. The kids had so much fun. Markus Hamence was a joy to host (as always)... We are already planning when we can have him grace us with his presence once more

Mercy Me Marketing, SA
Markus brought our office to life through the thoughtful installation of plants, completely transforming the feel of the space. His considered approach to placement, scale and greenery created a calmer, fresher environment that instantly feels more welcoming and energised. The plants have softened the office visually while also enhancing wellbeing, focus and connection throughout the workplace. Markus has a unique ability to use plants not just as décor, but as a living design element that elevates the entire office experience.
